Guest Speaker: Helen Duckham from Pipduck Wellies 

Helen is the owner / founder of Pipduck Australia, the largest distributor of ladies rainwear in Australia.  Pipduck Australia is also the umbrella company of a subset of companies.  Those companies are Impact Ecowares Australia, Plain and Simple Australia, Drop Ship Dream, Sale Vulture and How to Make Millions Importing.  Helen began her business in 2007 and has enjoyed continuous business growth each year, with an expected gross earnings in 2014 in excess of $2.1million.  Helen employs local people and supplies wholesale and locally made products nationally and internationally.  Helen has been formally trained with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law with Honours in Law but her greatest lessons have been learnt watching other successful business owners.

Topic:  The Cornerstone of my Success:  A Strong Service Ethic

A strong service ethic is the cornerstone of Helen's business success.  After working as a lawyer and wanting a change, at the age of 31, with no previous sales experience, Helen took on a job selling floor tiles and kitchen splash tiles.  Helen latched onto a mentor and watched him in action, learning how to run a business.  Helen's mentor showed her the key to a strong service / business ethic and how to truly and sincerely embrace a service roll.  She has implemented this strategy in her own business and will share her service strategy to demonstrate how a solid service ethic is the cornerstone of financial success.

Within Turia’s presentation, she will explore topics such as overcoming adversity and coming to terms with change, by sharing her story in a refreshingly candid way. Turia also emphasizes the importance of determination, perseverance and never giving up.

About Turia Pitt

Turia Pitt was named Cosmopolitan’s “Woman of the Year” for 2013, short-listed for 2014 “Young Australian of the Year” and the winner of the 2014 “NSW Woman of the Year” Award. Turia is a burns survivor, motivational speaker, engineer and published author.

Turia has a double degree in Mining Engineering and Science and graduated with first class honours. She worked as a model before landing her dream job with Rio Tinto at their prestigious Argyle Diamond Mine and moving to Kununurra with her partner, Michael. Their lives were turned upside-down when Turia was trapped by a grassfire in a 100 kilometre ultra marathon in September 2011, and suffered burns to over 65 per cent of her body.

She completed the Variety Cycle from Sydney to Uluru, the 20 kilometre Lake Argyle Swim and a section of the Great Wall of China. She is a passionate ambassador for interplast, a charity that provides free reconstructive surgery to people in developing countries. In 2014 she managed to raise almost $200,000 for this cause with a team of incredible women. In 2015, she will lead another group to the Inca Trail in Peru.

She undertook her MBA last year, hopes to complete in an Iron Man one day, is excited to have a family with her wonderful partner Michael and has aspirations to study Medicine.

Her memoir Everything to Live For was published in 2013.

Business Networking Lunch event - start time

Please note our IWIB Business Networking Lunch event arrival time is 12noon. We need everyone to arrive at 12noon in order to hand out name badges. ALSO arriving at 12noon not only gives you more time for open networking - it also allows us to start the event on time and to help you get back to work on time after the event.

No Advertising or promotional materials on tables at meetings thanks

One of the benefits of being a subsciber of IWIB is to be able to place your business cards, brochures, flyers, advertising and promotional products (pens etc) in the "Mercury bag" left on the chairs at IWIB events. NO advertising materials or promotional products are to be left on the tables at IWIB events - they must be placed in the MERCURY BAGS before the start of the event. Please arrive early in order to do this.

Tickets to IWIB Events are non-refundable, however you may transfer your ticket to another date, with over 48hrs cancellation notice (we have to give final numbers & pay the venue by that time).  Please email events@iwib.com.au to arrange cancellation and transfer of your ticket to another event.
