Illawarra Women in Business - JUNE / JULY 2009 Newsletter
The IWIB meeting last Friday was another FULL HOUSE at the Lagoon! The room was full of positive energy, fun and laughter - what a way to do business! Fiona Cosgrove our guest speaker was vibrant and energetic speaking about “Bringing out the best in your people – and watch your business grow – a new approach to mentoring”. This is an exciting and innovative networking opportunity and one you will benefit from! At IWIB POWER NETWORK PLUS you will have the opportunity to network ONE on ONE (business to business) with at least 12 other people – as well as open networking! You will gain experience promoting your business and talking about your business which will not only benefit you at this event but also boost your confidence to network with new faces at other networking events such as IWIB 6 weekly meetings, the IBC Business After Hours, Small Business Club & BNI. We tend to stick to the people we know at networking events – which can defeat the purpose of networking. Citizen Advocacy is a movement which aims to recognise, promote and defend the rights and interests of people with intellectual disabilities.
It does so by finding and supporting caring, responsible citizens who are prepared to act voluntarily to make a positive difference in the life of a person who may be isolated, face difficult challenges, or be in a risky situation.
Citizen Advocates also offer crisis support to people with various other disabilities, to resolve impending issues impacting on their lives. This support is time limited.
Illawarra Citizen Advocacy also offers education programs to people with disabilities, interested community members, families, carers and service workers.

Abuse & Neglect, Discrimination & Rights Abuses, Guardianship & Legal Issues, Accommodation, Health, Education, Finances, Dealing with service providers.

PHOTORAPTURE PHOTOGRAPHY

Jeff from Photorapture photography will be attending our IWIB meeting in September – and setting up in a corner of the Lagoon Restaurant to take portrait photographs @ $55 per person – including an indoor shot and an outdoor shot. The portraits are business portraits for you to use on your business cards, webpages, advertising materials or for press releases etc.
Jeff did this in September 2008 and this time will bring a different background for the inside shots.
He will be at the Lagoon on Friday 11th September from 9am through to 5pm with portraits being booked every 15 minutes (excluding the time IWIB is on between 12.30pm through to 2.30pm).
